The Pacific War Google Earth Project

You will create a placemark in Google Earth to summarize a significant event in the Pacific Theater of World War II. After, we will collect everybody's placemark to create a tour.

You need to include the following information:

  • Event's name and date (month / year)  in the placemark's title
  • In the placemark's body, a brief summary of the event and its significance in the war.
  • A relevant photograph or video embedded into the placemark.

Making a tour in Google Earth

Making a tour is remarkably easy:

  • In my places, right click and create a new folder.
  • Add placemarks into the folder, either by dragging them in, or adding new ones.
  • Arrange the placemarks in the order you would like them to play.
  • When you have all the placemarks in, press the play button located on the left.

Red arrows show the placemark folder and the tour play button

In Google Earth options you can play with different speeds.

To save your tour, right click on the folder and select "Save as".

Adding a Placemark

There's much more to Google Earth placemarks than placing a pin on the map. There a number of options available, and ways to add content, pictures, links, and videos. Moreover, with a collection of placemarks, you can create a tour.

The basics:

Play with your angle, direction, and height to find just the right view of your location.

Play with the text colours, transparency, and the placemark's icon.
